2026 Mid-Season Regulation Refinements
After analysis of the first 3 rounds (Australia, China, Japan), the FIA, teams, power unit makers and FOM agreed these refinements — implemented from the Miami GP onwards.
- →Max recharge reduced from 8MJ → 7MJ to reduce excessive harvesting and encourage flat-out driving
- →Peak superclip power increased to 350 kW (up from 250 kW), reducing recharge time and driver workload
- →Alternative lower energy limits now apply at 12 races (up from 8), adapting to circuit characteristics
- →Boost power capped at +150 kW in race conditions, limiting sudden performance differentials
- →MGU-K deployment maintained at 350 kW on corner exit to braking zones (overtaking zones)
- →MGU-K limited to 250 kW in other parts of the lap to reduce excessive closing speeds
- →New 'low power start detection' system triggers automatic MGU-K deployment for cars with abnormally low acceleration
- →Visual warning system added: flashing lights (rear and lateral) alert following drivers
- →Energy counter reset at start of formation lap to correct a system inconsistency
- →Intermediate tyre blanket temperatures increased following driver feedback for better initial wet grip
- →Maximum ERS deployment reduced in wet conditions to limit torque and improve car control
- →Rear light systems simplified for clearer, more consistent visibility in poor conditions

50/50 Electric-Combustion Split

The biggest change in F1 history. Power split moves from 70% combustion to 50/50 hybrid balance.

- ✓1.6L V6 turbo retained BUT completely redesigned
- ✓Electric motor peak power: 350 kW (~470hp) — more than doubled vs 2025
- ✓MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit - Heat) REMOVED
- ✓MGU-K (Kinetic) massively upgraded
- ✓Total power ~800hp (lighter, more efficient architecture)
- ✓100% sustainable fuel mandatory
